What an amazing day! It was great to see the community come together to celebrate our Veterans Village Thrift Store grand opening. Without the support of our partners and community, we wouldn’t have been able to make this project a reality!
We asked some veterans at the event to reflect on the occasion…
“This thrift store will help our veterans. This is the first time that I’ve been to this store and we think it is great. Everything that Arnie does for our veterans does have a positive direction.”
–Les Sherman, senior vice commander for Jewish War Veterans
“The concept behind this thrift store is amazing. And most importantly, the proceeds will directly benefit veteran residents at Veterans Village.”
–Steven Seiden, senior commander for Jewish War Veterans
“I believe the thrift store is a great project and it will succeed because it’ll benefit our veteran residents at Veterans Village. There are so many veterans who are homeless and physically impaired and the store will offer a chance for them to get the help they need.”
–Harry Roier, U.S. Navy veteran
Also, we’d like to express our gratitude and take a moment to honor our veterans who have defended our country. We honor them on Memorial Day, and every day.

The ribbon cutting ceremony and opening of the Thrift Store was indeed great! As several of us from Rhodes Ranch Women’s Club sat and listened to speakers, we spotted baskets up on the top of some shelving. We proceed to purchase a good number of the baskets to use for our silent auction at an October 19 Helping Heroes Art, Wine, and Jazz event —a fundraiser for the Veterans Village. Great day and so happy to be a part of the celebration!
